Diwali Gifts for Family and Extended Family: How to Gift Everyone Thoughtfully
Order in time
Diwali is on Sunday 8 November 2026. Order by 2 November for metro delivery, 29 October elsewhere.
Family gifting at Diwali is a logistics problem before it is a taste problem. There are ten to fifteen people, they are at different levels of closeness, several will hand you something at the door that you had not planned for, and you cannot spend an hour choosing for each one.
Which is how everyone ends up with the same solution: twelve identical dry fruit boxes, distributed with slight variations in size. It works, in the sense that nobody is left out. It also means nobody receives anything chosen for them, and a good proportion of those boxes are handed on to somebody else by the weekend.
There is a better structure, and it takes about the same effort.
The three tier approach
Tier one, the four or five people who matter most. Parents, in laws, a sibling you are close to. These get a real gift, chosen individually, in the ₹1,600 to ₹2,600 range.
Tier two, the wider circle. Cousins, aunts and uncles, family friends. ₹500 to ₹700 each, but chosen from a category rather than picked one by one. Same product, different fragrances, so each person receives something specific without you making twelve separate decisions.
Tier three, the buffer. Three or four spare gifts for the people who arrive unannounced. The alternative is the reciprocal panic where you hand back something you were given twenty minutes earlier.
That structure is why an 18ml range at a single price point is genuinely useful at Diwali. Eleven fragrances at ₹565 lets you give eight different people eight different things at the same cost, which reads as considered even though it took one decision.
For parents and in laws
A three fragrance set in 18ml, ₹1,695 MRP. Muse for a mother or mother in law, Maverick for a father or father in law, or a unisex set like Elevate for either.
18ml rather than 30ml, deliberately. Older recipients tend to use fragrance sparingly, on occasions rather than daily, so three small bottles is around a year of use for them and three large ones can feel wasteful. Volume is not generosity when it goes unused.
If they are the sort who accept nothing, this category tends to get past that, because it is small, consumed, and not obviously expensive.
For a more distinctive family gift: City Collection
For parents, in-laws or a relative you want to give something more memorable, consider the City Collection. The city-inspired 100ml fragrances are a premium step up, while the City Discovery Box works well when you want to give the collection without choosing one full-size scent.
For a sister
A three fragrance set in 18ml, ₹1,695 MRP, or a single 18ml at ₹565 if you have already exchanged at Rakhi and this is the second gift of the year.
Diwali sibling gifting sits at a lower level than Rakhi, and matching the Rakhi budget can make the next occasion awkward for both of you.
For a brother
A single 18ml, ₹565, or the Maverick set at ₹1,695 MRP. Bhai Dooj falls on Wednesday 11 November, three days after Diwali, so many families gift once across both occasions rather than twice.
For cousins, aunts, uncles and family friends
Single 18ml bottles at ₹565. Buy six or eight across different fragrances, then assign them at the door. Clean scents like ID and Flow suit anyone, so nothing is a risk.
This is the tier where the dry fruit box usually appears, and where the substitution is most noticeable.
For the neighbours and the people who help you
A 30ml eau de parfum. For house help, drivers, security staff and neighbours who send something across every year. It feels substantial enough to be a proper Diwali gift while still being practical and easy to use.
A note on regifting
Something like a third of the sweets and dry fruits given at Diwali get passed along. Nobody says so, everybody does it, and it is not rudeness, it is volume management: there is only so much a household can eat.
The gifts that do not get passed on are the ones chosen for a specific person. Even at ₹565, "I picked this one because it is clean and I thought it would suit your work days" is a gift that stays where it was given.
